Early Ireland: Women, Work and Status (Online Course Video Lecture 19 PREVIEW!)
When people talk about the Brehon Laws we often hear mention of how women's rights were very good in early Ireland.
While this is true in many respects, it would be slightly misguided to say that women were 'equal' to men in all respects.
But it is important to note that women were not excluded from working and often held high positions in office.
Women were not distinguished by their gender, rather they were graded on the same basis as the men: their merit.
In this preview of "Lecture 19: Women, Work and Status" from my Upcoming Course: Ancient Ireland: Culture and Society, I discuss the role of women in relation to the professional working grades.
